Punta Cana 2021

Long but worth the read…Going back to DR🇩🇴 was such an amazing beautiful experience. This go around, I had the opportunity to interact more with “our black Dominican brothers and sisters” The excursions we went on were fun but also very emotional. I met some hard working young men that I talked to & tried to support however I could. The excursion left my clothes filthy with mud and cave water. As I was preparing to walk to rinse off after a 4hr excursion one of the young men pointed at my black bandana and asked if he could have it. I took it off and gave it to him. The other young man asked for my shirt, i took it off and gave it to him. He then ran and hid the shirt in a safe space outside. When they walked away I became emotional. I cried so hard because for them to have so little financially and physically, they have so much more than a lot of us have internally and that’s gratitude. Gratitude unlocks The fullness of life, it turns what we have into enough. I asked the young man that took my shirt how old he is and he said 16. My heart dropped because my son is 16 and he is so entitled/privileged yet acts ungrateful and unappreciative at times. I started to walk to the locker to retrieve my shoes and God placed it heavy on my heart to give my brand new red & black Jordan’s to the 16 year old boy. I walked over to him looked into his eyes and said “if you can put your feet in these shoes they are yours” He does not even know his shoe size but placed his feet in them and they were his. If you know me you would know my heart has always been for the people especially “young people”… i do not do things for show however, i do believe that when you provide random acts of kindness; it gives others permission to do the same. Once my friends realized why I was so emotional and what I did, they started to give away whatever they could. I believe that giving is an opportunity for me2 be blessed. In giving to these young men, they blessed me by leaving my❤️full. I cried over the things that they don’t have and we take for granted, but I also cried because they have something that most of us don’t have, GRATITUDE🙏🏾
